Murder in the Gilded Cage

"Murder in the Gilded Cage" by Samuel Spewack is a detective novel written in the early 20th century. Soon after, Dora is found shot through the heart in her opulent “Gilded Cage”; no weapon is found, the windows are locked, no shot was heard, and Guy claims he was upstairs when the butler discovered the body. Rice bursts in to accuse Guy, brandishing telegrams about a chorus-girl fiancée, talk of sudden wealth, and a check the bank deemed a forgery—setting the stage for the inquiry to begin.
