"Sir Thomas More" by William Shakespeare is an Elizabethan play written in the late 16th century, dramatizing events from the life of Thomas More, who became Lord Chancellor under Henry VIII. The play explores themes of obedience to authority and individual conscience through three key episodes: More's intervention during the anti-immigrant riots of Ill May Day 1517, scenes from his private life revealing his character, and his principled defiance of the king that leads to his execution.
